Interactions with a Psychopath

Today in class we briefly talked about the San Bernardino shooting that happened a few months ago and how the couple who committed the shooting were labeled as psychopaths because they committed this mass shooting. Many people disagreed because of the fact that everyone that knew them said that they were nice, normal people. Psychopaths can fake being a good person for a while, but being their neighbor or close friends you'll soon be able to see that something is off. This made me think about my neighbors and how I would have no idea if they were psychopaths because I rarely talk to them. It brings up an important point, how many people do you surpass everyday that could be psychopaths and you wouldn't know because you never talk to them. Thoughts?

  1. It's scary to think that your best friend could be a complete psychopath. I'd say most of them were never obligated to be apart of a murder in the first place. Like you said, these were genially good people. They were just in the wrong moment in the wrong time. It was the situation. Any ordinary person can go and kill somebody. Think about it. If someone said they would write you a check for 50,000 to kill someone, would you do it? If not, what about 200,000? That would be more tempting.

  2. That could certainly be true in my life, yes. If I really were living near a psychopath, I think that I would notice something "off" about the person, the little traits that just don't line up with those of other people. However, perhaps some psychopaths are really good at covering up who they are, and then perhaps I wouldn't notice that they were psychopaths.
